Marinara Sauce

Simple homemade marinara sauce Heat the olive oil in large skillet. Add the onion and sauté over medium heat until translucent. Add the garlic and sauté for another minute or so. You want the garlic to be just slightly softened. You don't want to brown the garlic as it will take on a bitter flavor. Add the canned tomatoes, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, basil and thyme sprig. Simmer for 20-30 minutes stirring occasionally then salt and pepper to taste. It's key to let the flavors build. It can be ready to eat now or.. Turn heat to low and let simmer for longer for a bolder flavor. If the sauce gets to be thicker than desired just add more chicken broth.
